Telegram gained an update earlier this month, which brought privacy improvements and nifty message deletion smarts. The most notable addition is message reactions, which lets users respond to select texts with emoji in a Slack or Discord-like fashion. Finally, Telegram is rolling out special spoiler formatting allowing users to obfuscate text until a recipient taps on it.
You can hide spoilers on Telegram to avoid ruining a movie, a book, or other information for your friends. First, launch the Telegram app and head to the Group or Channel where you want to post the message with spoilers. Then, select “Spoiler.” You can press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows and Cmd+Shift+P on Mac to apply the spoilers formatting quickly. The words selected with spoilers formatting will appear grayed-out on Windows and blacked out on Mac. It’s a bit tricky to apply spoilers formatting for messages in Telegram for Android, iPhone, or iPad. Using spoilers formatting for messages can be fun, but keep in mind that these chats aren’t end-to-end encrypted, so avoid sharing sensitive information.
Telegram's 12th update of the year introduces reactions, message translation, themed QR codes, hidden text (spoilers), and more. Telegram was the first messaging app to add animated and interactive emoji, giving users unparalleled ways to express themselves in chats. This enables many different ways to collect feedback – from simple likes to upvote and downvote systems, and beyond. To discuss the fates of Ciri or Peter Parker without spoiling the fun for others, select any part of your text when typing and choose the new 'Spoiler' formatting. Over half a billion people around the world use Telegram not only to stay in touch with friends, but also to chat in public groups and view content from channels – in every language imaginable. You can also exclude any languages you speak fluently – which will hide the translate button for those messages.
This also works for groups, channels and bots, making it easy to show someone your favorite blog or fan club. We've redesigned all the context menus in Telegram for macOS – adding some new shortcut hints and introducing beautifully animated icons for every single menu item in the app.
In personal correspondence, it is also periodically necessary to change the formatting of the text in the Telegram, which we address to the interlocutor. In our article, you will learn all the ways to quickly make bold, strikethrough, italic and other types of text. The built-in Telegram panel is the easiest and most convenient way to format text. Use the panel to make text bold, italic, underlined, strikeout, and monospaced.
Special characters — this method works in all versions of Telegram: desktop, mobile and web. Select the text; An additional panel will open; Click on the three dots icon; Choose the type of font you need.
In the mobile version of Telegram on Android, the monospaced text is done as follows: select the typed text, click on the icon in the form of three horizontal dots and in the displayed list select the type of face "Mono". In the desktop version, select the typed text and call the context menu by pressing the right mouse button.
The algorithm of actions is similar to that which we described in the case of monospaced text. Bold type is often used in telegram channels to design headings and subheadings. Select the built-in panel and select the typeface "Bold" (works in mobile and desktop versions); Use the key combination Ctrl / Cmd + B (only works in the desktop version); Enclose text with double asterisks (for example, ** body positive text **); Use the Markdown Bot telegram bot (type @bold and select "B" (Bold) from the list that appears.

By looking at Telegram’s “Markdown Syntax” Wiki page, it should be relatively easy to create text that is bold and italic. That is: Telegram’s markdown interpretation must have changed. When programming a Telegram bot, it is possible to use HTML instead of markdown, but I would like to simply write some bold and italic text to my friends while regularly chatting with them.
Select the text using Word Editor and click in the three dots on the top right corner of the chat.
Special care must be taken to consider the UTF-8 length of strings when generating message entities, see example implementations: tdlib, MadelineProto.
